Licence

Before you size up the competition, you’re going to need a racing licence provided by Motorsport UK, the governing body of British Motorsport.

To get the ball rolling, visit the Motorsport UK website and order a ‘Go Racing’ pack. Inside, you’ll find a:

  • competition licence application form
  • booklet outlining the next steps towards your first licence
  • USB stick featuring Motorsport UK yearbook and instructional film
  • Motorsport UK keyring

Once you’ve received your pack, you’ll need to book and pass a course with the Association of Racing Drivers School (ARDS).

Your ARDS test is made up of two equally weighted assessments. The first part is a theory test based on the information you’ll receive in your ‘Go Racing’ pack. The final part is a track-based test with an instructor, assessing your capabilities behind the wheel.

Once you’ve passed both assessments, you’ll be required to send your signed-off application to Motorsport UK, who, if satisfied, will then send you an Interclub racing licence.

Equipment

Okay, you’ve got your licence – now it’s time to purchase your safety equipment. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Race helmet approved by SNELL or FIA.
  • Race suit approved by FIA.
  • Racing gloves
  • Racing boots
  • HANS device/frontal head restraint
  • Fireproof underwear

Choose your Formula

Your racing ambitions will determine which formula is right for you.

Whether you prefer to race saloon cars, sports cars or even endurance cars, your first port of call will be to contact the respective championship coordinator. Their role is to keep every event running smoothly by acting as a point of contact for drivers, sponsors and suppliers.

Car

All cars must comply with technical regulations found in the Motorsport UK yearbook. On race day, a scrutineer will check your car compliance. If it doesn’t pass safety regulations, you won’t be allowed to race.

If you don’t want the stress of scrutineers, we offer an arrive and drive package where you can turn up and drive one of our race-ready cars.

For the BRSCC Fiesta Championship, you’ll be racing in either a Fiesta Mk6 ST150 or Mk7 ST180 Turbo, depending on the race class. Stringent restrictions are put in place for both cars to allow for fair competition and more exciting racing.

Membership

You must have BRSCC membership to enter any Fiesta championship race. For first-timers, an annual membership costs £150, which is then reduced to £135 for every year thereafter.

Alternatively, if you’re planning to attend a one-off racing event, you can purchase a weekend guest racing membership for £50.

To apply for a BRSCC membership, visit www.brscc.co.uk/membership
